Li Na beats nemesis in 1st round at French Open
PARIS (AP) ? Former French Open champion Li Na started fast at Roland Garros to beat a nemesis.
The 2011 titlist raced to a 4-love lead after 20 minutes and defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues in the first round Monday, 6-3, 6-4.
Seeded No. 6, Li came into the match 0-3 on clay against Medina Garrigues but broke serve six times and came forward aggressively, winning 13 of 16 points at the net.
No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska needed only 57 minutes to defeat Shahar Peer 6-1, 6-1. Radwanska, last year's Wimbledon runner-up, played for the first time since withdrawing before last week's Brussels tournament with a recurrence of the right shoulder injury that has bothered her for the past couple of years.
"I decided to have a week of rest and just practice," she said. "I think it was a good move."
She'll next play American Mallory Burdette, who won in her Roland Garros debut Sunday. Radwanska was asked what she knew about her second-round opponent.
"To be honest, not much. Nothing at all, actually," she said with a smile. "I might Google her."
Playing in sunny, mild weather on center court, Li had a point for a 5-2 lead in the second set but wavered briefly, and her double-fault on break point made it 4-all.
She regrouped to break back, then quickly closed out the victory.
The 31-year-old Li is 22-6 this year and was runner-up to Victoria Azarenka at the Australian Open. She next plays American Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who beat Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-4, 6-1.
Li is one of six former champions in the women's draw. Maria Sharapova, the 2012 winner, was among those scheduled to play later Monday.
No. 15 Roberta Vinci won in less than an hour, beating Stephanie Foretz Gacon 6-3, 6-0.
Radwanska won while committing only eight unforced errors. She has two tournament titles this year but is just 2-2 on clay this spring and has never advanced beyond the fourth round at Roland Garros.
Her sister, Urszula, beat 30th-seeded Venus Williams in the final match Sunday, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (4), 6-4

The new game is a digital collectible card game, similar in concept to Magic: The Gathering, and therefore a very different beast from the free-form world-building and exploration sim Minecraft. Like Minecraft, it'll allow users to access the software very early, inviting them to become a key part of the development process. Sky's Apps Have Been Hacked And Are Off Google Play
The British Sky Broadcasting Group has removed their Android apps (Sky News, Sky Go, Sky+ and Sky Wi-Fi) from Google Play because of concerns that the Syrian Electronic Army has hacked the apps. Sky is advising users to delete the apps while they respond to the problem.
UPDATE: All Sky's Android apps were hacked and replaced... please uninstall it, And we will let you know when it will be available

Since World War II, Germany has preferred to stay out of international leadership roles. But the eurocrisis has put the country at Europe's head ? with all the criticism that entails.

Germans in the postwar era, on the other hand, have preferred to blend into the background.
But amid Europe's sovereign debt crisis, as Germany's healthy economy has put it at the head of the 27-member European Union, that's been proving impossible. And now Germans are dealing with the criticism that accompanies being a regional ? if unwilling ? hegemon.
While a recent Pew poll shows Germany to be considered by many countries to be the most trustworthy nation in Europe, it has also accrued new enemies far and wide, with Greeks burning German flags or picketing with signs of German Chancellor Angela Merkel dressed in Nazi uniform. There have even been?claims from France that Germans are out to rule the Continent.
?We have made a lot of commitment to help those people,? says Markus, a musical theater stage producer, in Berlin?s Alexanderplatz, a public square and major transportation hub in Germany?s capital Berlin. ?It?s really unfair.?
It?s also untrue ? at least the part about Germany wanting continental dominion, say German and European observers. Instead, the avoidance of tough positions in foreign policy, so Germany is not led into a moral dilemma, is ingrained in the postwar mentality, they say.
?There is no appetite for domination. Germany has been pushed into this position by default,? says Jan Techau, director of Carnegie Europe in Brussels for the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. ?There is no ambition to shape the continent in the image of Germany.?
?Germans want to be liked by the rest of the world,? says Michael Wohlgemuth, director of Open Europe Berlin. ?Germany feels uneasy in its new powerful role. We don?t want to be leaders of Europe.?
Outside the US embassy in Berlin, Erkan Arikan says that Germany is being unfairly maligned in Europe. But he says he can also laugh it off, as a German of Turkish descent in a multicultural Germany that has nothing to do with the 1930s.
He says that he can see some parallels between the hegemonic positions of Germany and the US today, but there is a limit. ?The US is still the world police for everyone; Germany doesn?t want to be the focus,? he says. ?But maybe it?s becoming the economic police of Europe.?
It?s a role that many Germans might feel uncomfortable playing, especially with the bad will that can breed.
If Americans don?t like the term ?ugly American,? Germans like it even less.
Ulrike Gu?rot of the European Council of Foreign Relations says when she travels around the country and talks to everyday Germans, they are starting to ask, ?Are we responsible for this youth unemployment in Spain? There is an uneasiness they they are just starting to feel,? she says. ?They don?t want to be the ?ugly German.??
Official: Woman killed in San Antonio flooding
SAN ANTONIO (AP) ? A woman has been killed in flooding in the San Antonio area.
San Antonio Fire Department spokesman Christian Bove says the 29-year-old woman was trapped in her car, got on the roof and was swept away in floodwaters. He says her body was later found against a fence.
Bove says rescue workers are searching for a second person who's missing after being trapped in another car.
Bove says about 130 people have been rescued from their homes and cars in the San Antonio area. He says water is up to 4 feet high in some homes.
The San Antonio International Airport by Saturday afternoon had recorded nearly 10 inches of rain since midnight. It's caused nearly all streams and rivers to flood.
