WORLD NEWS TOMORROW -? While Julian Assange predicts that he could be holed up in Ecuador?s embassy for a year, spare a thought for the eminent diplomat Patrick Mullee. He was due to take up his post as our ambassador to Ecuador last month, but is kicking his heels in London while the Assange case remains unresolved.

In June, Mullee was appointed as Our Man in Quito and returned from Uruguay, where he had served for four years as ambassador. ?He is very frustrated,? claims one of his friends. ?He was all ready to move to Ecuador, but is now stuck in London.?

Assange, who founded the WikiLeaks website, faces arrest and extradition if he sets foot outside Ecuador?s embassy in Knightsbridge. The Foreign Office confirms that Mullee has not taken up his post. ?He will be there in due course,? insists a spokesman. ?It is fairly normal for it to be delayed.?
