The bid to get a new Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) starts on Monday with three short-listed candidates for interviews.
Director of logistics at police headquarters Silas Mc Opiyo will be the first one to appear before the interviewing panel and will be followed by Stanley Cheruiyot of legal department at CID.
The head of CID training school Peter Muinde will close the day.
Tomorrow, deputy director of CID Gideon Kimilu, head of investigations at CID headquarters Mohamed Amin and head of Interpol at CID headquarters Mary Kaol will appear.
The candidates will appear before the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) for interviews until Friday.
A total of 33 police officers applied for the job but 12 made it to the final list.
Three names will be sent to the President and Prime Minister for appointment of one.
The chairman of the commission, Johnston Kavuludi, said they expect to have a new director by Christmas.
?So far we are progressing well and we expect to finish this business by Christmas time,? said Kavuludi.
The DCI will be semi-autonomous and will be one of the most powerful office holders.
It is the first time that Kenya conducts open recruitment of police bosses as stipulated in the Constitution and other laws.
The commission has so far nominated David Kimaiyo, Patrick Ochieng Owino and Grace Kaindi for Inspector General, Ndegwa Muhoro, Judy Ndeda and Jasper Ombati for the deputy Inspector General and Samuel Arachi, Kimilu and David Ngondi for Administration Police.
Gazette appointment
Anxiety is building in the police service after President Kibaki failed to gazette the successful candidates of the Inspector General of Police and two deputies.
The President was supposed to gazette the names on Friday, which marked seven days after he received them from the NPSC.
The National Police Service Act states the president is supposed to gazette the successful candidates seven days after receiving them from the commission.
The nominees? names were sent on November 22 after successful interviews.
Gender and regional balance will be a major determinant. The Act states one of the three top bosses has to be a woman.
